Learning to sprechen Sie Deutsches is fun–and far easier than you might think. German and English are closely related–you already know viele Phrasen! With this guide, you will make sense of this fascinating language in no time.

This practical, hands-on Buch comes with easy-to-understand lessons, useful exercises, and a CD for pronunciation help. Building on the German language’s close relation to English, this all-new edition covers everything from basic introductions to verb conversions. You will learn to:

The Everything Learning German Book

Whether you want to sample das stoutest Lager or converse with your grandparents in their native tongue, you’ll soon discover just how easy it is to learn German!

This edition includes completely new material on:

–Rules of spelling and punctuation
–Appropriate language for correspondence in German, including e-mail
–Updated exercises

This is the best introduction to German grammar I have found. It covers everything you need to know in a very understandable way (including the aspects not covered by Michel Thomas!) It is easy and pleasant to read. It is equally easy to refer back to specific sections when needed. The CD is useful to help with comprehension, pronounciation and to revise the verb conjugations and vocab lists. (I use it on the daily commute.)

The Everything Learning German Book

I have dropped a star because there are not many exercises to help imbed the grammar points in one’s mind (try Schaum’s Grammar for that). There is also very limited vocabulary as this book sticks to basic sentences and the odd vocab list.

You will never learn German from one book, but for beginners, this should be one of the books you read. The grammar is far more logical, better explained and easier to refer back to than in the “Teach Yourself German” book.
